Question by Kasie M: Do you think the registered sex offender website is supplying enough information to protect the public?

I've seen a million questions on here about MySpace and registered sex offenders, but has anyone actually BEEN to the sex offender site and searched around for a while? I can't seem to find a man I used to know who had served several years in prison for "having sex with his underage girlfriend". How are we supposed to know EXACTLY what crime was committed by the offender? It's very vague. I think the public should worry more about the conviction and labeling process of THAT website than Myspace's. I recently typed in the name of an ex-boyfriend on the google search engine and was SHOCKED (ok, not that shocked, because he tried to do those things to me when I was younger) to find that he had been caught soliciting sex, sending nude pics, and planning to meet a 13yr old girl who was actually an agent for the police. When you go on his page though, it only says that he IS an offender. Because I know Brian Keith Fletcher, I know he's more of a danger than the average Joe, so, what gives..?
The information goes both ways. Say I'm a single mother of two young girls and I meet/marry a man who has told me he's am offender..but only because he was streaking in college and a kid saw him, but later find out that he was exposing himself to a child and their parent walked into the room. What's the difference, one might ask? The first guy ended up a victim because of a fraternity dare gone askew, the second, quite possibly, could have been testing the waters of pedophilia. I would think that the first guy would like to be classified as less of a threat than the second guy. Don't you? Is it safe that neighbor's would continue to assume whatever they wanted of EACH of these men? Or would it benefit everyone if a classification system were in place? I am sorry if it sounds that offenders should continue to be prosecuted for vicious crimes against children. Perhaps if the system weren't so lax, more people would think twice before crossing that line.
All I know is that on Brian's page, it lists him the same as it lists a guy I know who got caught streaking. The guy streaking is a goofy SOB who tries to make everyone laugh..Brian is the man who guilted me into getting in his car and then driving out into the middle of nowhere so noone would witness him trying to pull my clothes off and grope me while threatening and crying at the same time. I managed to get out of the situation, but it became obvious to me then that he was a danger to the next girl who might not think so quickly on the spot. How is it fair that they are both viewed with the same critical eye, but "streaker" got 6 months in jail, but Brian walked away with 17 yrs. suspended sentence? Talk about RIGHTS!! What was that saying?? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me? When are the rights of the innocent going to be the main goal, instead of the rights of the criminal's? Maybe a little vigilante justice is needed to restore the logical thought process

I think it's enough to have their pictures online. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. What, you want details of the crimes? If a person is a sex offender than that should be enough for you, it should be the offenders that would want more of an explanation so they can distinguish themselves from those with more serious offenses. Again, I think it's enough to know that the guy next door is a perv so you can steer clear. But, people that go overboard with persecuting offenders need to spend their time on something else.

There are perverts everywhere, you even have the info to see where they live, just stay away from them and that should be enough.
